Media Campaigning and Advocacy: young liberals come up with innovative ideas

Media campaigning is all make-belief yet pragmatic convincing. Liberals must try to win over supporters through the fine combination of thought and technology, summed up Aniq Zafar in the last session of the recent FreedomGate seminar in Islamabad. During the plenary discussions the participants from the development sector and media shared their real life experiences while designing different campaigns and obstacles in acquiring the desired results. The actual planning is many times lost in the unpredictable situations especially in the sub continent when the interest or focus of the target audience keeps oscillating from one point to another. This makes the campaign designers feel more challenged requiring being more creative and think about counter strategies to minimize the centrifugal forces that decrease the interest of the audience in the issues addressed.
We have to be focused; we need to be persistent; we need to select the appealing slogans with the right proportions of emotions and reason; and above all we need to be convinced ourselves of the issues we take up, says the myth of successful advocacy campaigns. This is the innovative concept used with the rightly chosen medium that makes a lasting impact on people and inspiring them for action, deliberated the FreedomGators during the sessions. This seminar on Media Campaigning and Advocacy Skills was moderated by Aniq Zafar and Munazza Batool.
